1. Flow and Anchoring in T.E.Y.L. classes (10:00-11:20) by John Wiltshier (Miyagi Gakuin Women’s University)
If we see great teachers teach the classes always run so smoothly. The teacher enjoys teaching and children enjoy learning. Such smooth classroom management is created at the lesson planning stage. Thinking beyond the typical lesson plan components of time, activity and resources to consider lesson flow and anchoring is necessary to improve classroom management. Participants in this presentation will draw lesson flow diagrams to help analyze their own classes and will be shown how to identify positive and negative anchors that currently exist in their classrooms.

2. Tasks and projects in elementary schools (13:30-14:50) by James York (Tokyo Denki University)
The first topic discussed is the development of a task-based lesson framework suitable for young learners, and how tasks can be arranged into meaningful projects that increase student motivation. Sample task-based lessons and a sample space-themed project used to introduce comparatives, body parts, and clothing are presented.
The second topic discussed is how focus-on-form (FonF) can be successfully introduced in elementary classes through collaborative-learning tasks. Although reference is made to SLA theory, the main objective of the presentation is to provide practical advice and ideas for teachers regarding the successful introduction of TBL methodologies into young learner EFL contexts.
3. Moving music to center stage (15:00-15:50) by Deborah Grow (Tsukuba University and The English Garden)
Moving Music to Center Stage will address the power of music and rhythm and how they can improve language skills. By delving a bit into neuroscience, we will explore the influence of music and rhythm on memory and language. We will also explore the multi-sensory aspect of music as well as the multi-layered lessons that music holds for our students. The chance to experience various ways to incorporate music and rhythm into varied classrooms will transform this presentation from one to listen to into one to explore with your own students. A toe tapping lesson to get us in the mood to add music into next week’s lesson plan.
